I ruined an expensive pan with Teflon and the owner who's now passed on, was quite upset. I rode my bike to work on some weeknights and weekends and it was mainly a summer gig. I got an opportunity for that gig when I was 13 or 14 maybe. My first paycheck type job was a dishwasher at a restaurant by my home called The Bavarian Inn. She taught me how to laugh and I inherited my sense of humor from her! She too was a life long entrepreneur and business woman with varying degrees of success but always found enjoyment in life. As a side, I look up to my mother, her legacy and her hard work and determination never giving up. It helps me put things into a different perspective rather than getting one sided and agenda driven. I think I'm as reasonable and follow their examples both on the left and right. It was a different time and discourse was in a different place. I also love "classical liberals" like Milton Friedman. ![]() I emailed Renk and Mike the other week in fact, Mike replied! I love and look up to the old conservatives like William F Buckley Jr and Thomas Sowell. I often catch a guy name Renk and sometimes a guy fills in for him named Mike Gallagher. On the right I can't say I "enjoy" listening to it but I do and I listen to my local right winger station 95.3 WBCK FM talk radio when I want to get their take on pop culture. Although I don't always agree with them I appreciate their perspective. I look up to people like Noam Chomsky, Christopher Hitchens and I read left winger rags like The Nation (I subscribe). Like consuming media from all avenues of the thought spectrum, left, right, center, radical, etc. When I was a kid I looked up to athletes, they were my heroes but as I aged and sports became less important to me probably because I grew out of the routine of caring about them, I found interest in intellectual things. Rousseff is facing an impeachment vote in the Senate today that could force her to step down from the presidency for 180 days and face trial.I look up to intellectual leaders. This more than doubles the number of confirmed planets in the known galaxy, and about three dozen are in the 'Goldilocks zone'-meaning they're close enough to a star for water to pool, but not so close that it could burn away.Ĭover Photo: Embattled Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff speaks at a women's conference on in Brasilia, Brazil. Houston, we have a planet: More than 1200 new planets (1200!) have been discovered through NASA's Kepler telescope. But ultimately, the Wal-Mart's move is about the money: the company pays Visa about five cents more for the signature. It's not the first suit between the two companies, and it's certainly not the first wrinkle in the shift to chip technology. Wal-Mart wants customers to provide a PIN when making in-store debit card purchases, whereas Visa will also let customers use a signature. Wal-Mart is suing Visa over the implementation of its chip card technology. He's not well-loved either: only about 2% of Brazilians would actually vote for him. If Rousseff is removed (which is the expected outcome), Vice President Michel Temer will likely take over. The vote is "a watershed in the power struggle that has consumed Brazil," and a simple majority of the country's 81 senators would push the impeachment forward. ![]() The FTC had sued the two companies last year, arguing that the proposed office supply behemoth would " create just one dominant retailer focused on pens, paper clips and Post-it notes." Hyperloop One will also launch its first public propulsion test this morning, in North Las Vegas.Ĭutting that office supply monopoly off at the pass: Office Depot and Staples have cancelled their planned merger, after a judge halted the $6.3 billion deal due to antitrust issues. The other, formerly known as Hyperloop Technologies, has been renamed Hyperloop One and just secured $80 million in a Series B round of funding. One, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, announced a licensing deal to power its prototype with " magnetic levitation technology" (!?!). The first hyperloop test: Two LA-based companies have just upped the ante in the effort to make Elon Musk's hyperloop a reality.
